The Gombe State Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, said on Monday that his command had apprehended 10 suspected robbers that had been terrorizing residents of Gombe metropolis.
Iwar said: “Before us are criminals that have made life difficult for a lot of us in Gombe.
“Through intelligence report and community policing, we are proud to say that we succeeded in arresting some of them.”
Iwar said three of the suspects specialised in terrorizing people at petrol stations in the metropolis.
He said: “For some time, we had series of armed robbery attacks in petrol filling stations but through investigation, intelligent reports and the support of members of the public, we were able to arrest three of them.”
According to him, one of them died in the cause of the arrest.
Iwar said that the suspects were not residents of Gombe, but came from Sokoto and Bauchi States, adding that the command was still investigating to find out if they had been colluding with some people in Gombe State.
Iwar said the remaining seven suspects were arrested blocking roads and attacking motorists at the Kuri-Dogon-Ruwa axis of the state.
He added: “They all made confessional statements and we are ready to charge them to court.”
