The police on Thursday arraigned a man Yusuf Hamzat, in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing his neighbour, Habeeb Mustapha, 19, with a knife in the stomach.
The defendant, who resides on Adepitan Street, Alapere in Ketu area of Lagos state, is charged with causing grievous harm.
The Prosecutor, Insp Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 8.
Ihiehie alleged that the defendant stabbed the complainant with knife in the stomach during an altercation.
He said that the complainant sustained life threatening injuries.
The prosecution said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the section prescribes a seven-year jail term for offenders if convicted.
The defendant, however, denied the charge.
The Magistrate, E. Kubeinje, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until May 28, for mention.
