A suspected kidnap kingpin, Anthony Ogbalor, 57, popularly known as Dracular, has been reported dead in police custody.
He was said to have died after he was allegedly tortured by operatives at the Criminal Investigations Department at the police headquarters in Asaba, Delta State.
Ogbalor’s family levelled the allegation on Thursday.
They said their kinsman died after he was tortured by policemen while in custody.
But the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, denied the allegation, describing it as a “figment of the imagination of those peddling the rumour”.
Aniamaka said the suspect did not die in police custody, but on his hospital bed.
He explained that the Ogbalor was rushed to hospital for treatment after developing complications in the cell.
Ogbalor was arrested last year December with his gang members, including Henry Kessena; Kosin Henry, popularly known as Capon; and Kenneth Onome.
They were arrested after snatching a navy blue Toyota Corolla car with registration number EPE 874 DQ and driving it through Enerhen Road in Warri.
