The Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District, Gyang Dantong, has been confirmed dead.
A serving senator, who sought for anonymity, said that Dantong died from gunshots he sustained during an attack by Fulani herdsmen.
Dantong was said to be attending the mass burial of the over 50 persons reportedly killed in the house of a pastor in Matse area of Riyom in Plateau State.
Dantong was said to be at the burial with the members of the House of Representatives and House of Assembly for the area.
The burial was in progress when suspected Fulani men stormed the venue, shooting sporadically.
He was hit by bullets during the shooting.
As earlier reported by The Eagle Online, the 50 corpses were discovered in the house of a pastor said to belong to the Church of Christ in Nigeria.
They were reported to be persons suspected killed by Fulani attackers who fled to the house of the pastor to seek refuge.
