The Plateau State Police Command on Monday in Jos said order had been restored to the Kukah village of Shendam Local Government Area after Saturday evening’s attack by unknown gunmen.
Eyewitness reports had claimed that four people were killed and many houses burnt by the armed attackers who stormed the village on Saturday around 5.20pm.
Felicia Anselem, the command’s spokesperson, told the News Agency of Nigeria that normalcy had been restored in the area by security agents posted there.
Anselem however said three people were killed by the attackers.
“Investigation to unravel the identity of the attackers, with a view to arresting them, have since commenced,” she said.
Captain Salisu Mustapha, the spokesman for the special security task force in the state, also confirmed the attack.
Mustapha said: “I can only confirm two deaths.
“The attackers were however estimated to be about 100 in number.
“They burnt some houses.
“But they have been repelled and calm has returned to the area.”
The attack was the second in about five days in the state.
Before the latest attack, two other persons were killed on Tuesday night during an attack in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
