Relatives of the Chairman of Miracle Sand Dredgers Association, Oladele Pius, who was killed on Monday by an explosion in Lagos State, are fuming over the statement made by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Prince Umar Manko.
Manko had stated on Monday at the spot of the blast under the Festac Link Bridge that the device that killed and shattered Pius’s body was not an explosive but a spark from a fault from an electrical device.
A visit to the Lake View Estate residence of the deceased in Festac, Amuwo Odofin area of the state, revealed a hostile environment as his benefactors who wailed and cried endlessly rained curses on his killers.
One of the relatives, who pleaded for anonymity, said an electrical default could not have shattered Pius into pieces like that.
His words: “How can the police say it was electrical default?
“You need to see how shattered his whole body was.
“The part from his waist downward was cut off.
“It was only the upper part that was remaining.
“He bled endlessly from the nose.
“His wife held his head so that it will not fall apart and somebody somewhere is saying it is electrical jargons!”
The environment in the deceased’s house however became charged when a lady identified as Esther brought a polythene bag, claiming she had brought some of the fallen flesh of his body.
Wailing, crying and shouting seemed endless as sympathisers’ trooped into the estate.
Some of the sympathisers claimed that there had been several attempt on the deceased’s life before his gruesome death on Mondau.
One of them said: “They have macheted him, he didn’t die and they shot him, no injury or bullet wound was seen, so they devised another means. God dey ooo!”
The two widows of the Ikale, Ondo State born businessman are still finding it difficult to come to terms with the fact that he is gone forever.
Meanwhile, dredgers under the Festac Bridge refused to carry on with their normal businesses as the place was deserted with a few people seen gathered and whispering to one another about the incident.
