Organizers of the Nigeria Pitch Awards have announced that the Chairman of the Police Service Commission and former Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, will be handed a Special Achievement in Football award in Kaduna on Friday.
The third edition of the annual Nigeria Pitch Awards will hold at the Hotel 17, Lafia Road, Kaduna on Friday, with red carpet starting at 8pm, an hour after the end of the Nigeria/Egypt 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
Organizers have pointed at the former IGP’s move in starting the Security Agencies Football Competition as a laudable one.
Also to be honoured, with the Sam Okwaraji Award, is Super Eagles’ midfield ‘General’, John Mikel Obi.
The Chief Operating Officer of Matchmakers Consult International Limited, Nelson Olafisoye, informed on Wednesday that the Chelsea FC of England ace is the player with the highest number of caps in the Super Eagles’ camp presently, and therefore deserved the honour.
Olafisoye said: “We found out that Mikel Obi has the highest number of caps in the camp of the Super Eagles presently. That itself is a great sign of commitment that should be applauded.”
