A shipping company, Medallion Marine, has said pirates have attacked and looted its SP Brussels tanker off the coast of Nigeria, kidnapping five crew members.
Medallion Marine, in a statement on Wednesday, said SP Brussels was attacked on Monday.
It said the attack was carried out by “heavily armed pirates.”
The attack was reportedly carried out about 40 miles (65 kilometres) off the coast of the Niger Delta.
The spokesman of the company, Martin Baxendale, said: “The pirates ransacked the vessel for personal belongings and took five crew members with them on their departure.
“Everything possible is being done to ensure the safe return of those crew members taken.”
