Veteran Nigerian actor, Ade Eketunde, and his wife, Salome Eketunde, on Sunday said television series have become more lucrative than movies due to the activities of pirates in the country.
The thespians said they have opted for the television series because they tend to make more money from it, which accounted for their absence in movies in recent times.
Ade Eketunde, popularly known as Bright in movies, said the activities of pirates must be curbed by the Federal Government to allow the movie industry thrive.
According to him, before pirates would think of pirating a series, a lot of money would have been made from it.
He said: “Presently, we are into television series.
“That is why our faces are not seen for a while now in movies because we prefer series due to the activities of pirates.
“We want to seize this opportunity to call on the Federal Government to give more stringent sanctions to pirates and curb their excesses.”
In her view, Salome expressed her preference for the television soap operas than movies because of the dangers posed by pirates to movies production.
She called for more stringent measures by government to curb the activities of pirates and boost revenue generation from the entertainment business.
“Government must take positive and drastic steps to curb activities of pirates and stop paying lip service to it; death penalty should be the sanction,” she said.
