The Passage of Petroleum Industrial Bill is under threat as the Joint Committee on the PIB of the Senate and House of Representatives engaged in a shouting match during the sitting to harmonise the report.
Although the sections of the bill that led to the sharp disagreement among the lawmakers were not known, but the senators and Reps members failed to reach a conclusion on the matter during the meeting that lasted for four hours on Wednesday.
Both Chambers were expected to conclude on the harmonised version of the report on Wednesday.
But the sharp disagreement among the lawmakers stalled the conclusion.
A credible source informed our correspondent that the members of the Joint Committee from both the House and Senate will continue the meeting on the report on Thursday whether they will find a common ground to the affected section or not.
Our correspondent learnt that Senate Joint Committee on PIB traveled to Dubai, United Arab Emirate to draft their own report on the bill, which was yet to be resolved.
The Senate had vowed to pass the bill before embarking on annual recess in July.
It could be recalled that the PIB had been in the National Assembly for over 12 years and the lawmakers had vowed to pass the bill this time around.
