Details have emerged of the collaboration that led to the rescue of the Magajin of Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar, in the early hours of Tuesday after spending four months in the den of his kidnappers.
Umar is the District Head of Daura, where President Muhammadu Buhari comes from.
He is also the in-law of President Buhari’s Aide-De-Camp.
The Eagle Online gathered that the operation to rescue Umar was coordinated by the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team.
According to available information, after the kidnap of Umar, the IGP, Mohammed Adamu, directed the IRT, headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, to rescue the monarch unhurt.
It took several months of intelligence gathering to track the monarch to Kano in Kano State.
The IRT head worked in collaboration with the Officers-in-Charge of the State Investigation Bureau of both the Niger and Kaduna States Police Commands.
Kyari then enlisted the support of the Kano State Police Command, the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad and the Police Mobile Force in the state after the location of the kidnappers was established.
In an early morning operation on Tuesday, the police operatives stormed the hideout of the kidnappers in a secluded house along Madobi Road in Samagu Quarters, close to Sani Abacha Youth Center, Kano.
The kidnapper engaged the police operatives in a gun duel, leading to the death of one of the gang members.
A police source said: “The rescue mission through high level intelligence-led operation, which was conducted in Kaduna, Bauchi, Niger, Katsina, Katsina and Kogi States, led to the arrest of 11 of the terrorists and kidnappers, including the overall gang leader and rescue of the victim in Panshakara area of Kano city.
“One of the terrorist/kidnappers was however killed during the rescue operation with the assistance of the CP Kano State.
“Several AK47 rifles and ammunitions were recovered and several of the kidnappers were arrested alive.”
