The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board has today formally taken over the administration, employment, recruitment, promotion and other establishment matters of all Primary Health Care staff working in all the 57 local government and local council development areas of the state, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina, has said.
Adeshina, who formally received the staff, explained that the action was part of the state government’s efforts towards the full implementation of the new Lagos State Policy on Primary Health Care revitalisation.
The special adviser, who was represented by the Chairman of the state Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Abosede Olayinka, said that the successful implementation of primary health care at the local governments remains a major thrust of the state government.
She pointed out that it was imperative for government to intervene, with assistance from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, in the revitalisation of service delivery at this level of care, particularly in recognition of the pivotal role of Primary Health care in the health care delivery system.
The special adviser said that the health sector would continue to seek for serious minded health workers that will utilise challenges as opportunities created by government with the setting up of PHCs in all the 57 LGAs and LCDAs for an improved service delivery to the masses.
