The Pharmacist Council of Nigeria in Nasarawa State has commenced the training of Nigeria Association of Patent Proprietary Medicine Dealers members in the state on proper dispensation of drugs.
Speaking at the opening of the training on Saturday in Lafia, Nwora Okpaleake, State Officer of PCN, said that the training was aimed at improving the capacity of medicine dealers in line with the present realities.
Okpaleake noted that patent medicine dealers were the closest drug dispensers to rural dwellers, hence the need for the training.
He said: “The training, which will focus on RDT-Malaria, Pregnancy-Glucomiter Test Kits, will increase their capacity for better service delivery.
“It will ensure that those involved in drug vending are upgraded, in line with the current practice.”
On his part, Michael Isife, Lafia Local Government Area Chairman of NAPPMED, said that the training was necessitated by the need to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
He said that it was aimed at improving their training, being the closest drug dispensers to the people in rural areas.
“The training will help us to ensure that patents get appropriate malaria drugs as a result of testing, not just on assumption,” he said.
Also speaking, the state PSN Chairman, Abdulmalik Usman, said that the training would ensure that the patent medicine dealers operated within their scope.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the training had in attendance medicine dealers from the Nasarawa South senatorial district.
