Facts have emerged on how senators elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party begged the immediate past President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, not to quit the Red Chamber.
Our correspondent learnt that the decision of Senator Mark to quit the Senate might not be unconnected to the failure of the party to remain as the ruling party at the federal level.
A source who revealed the development to our correspondent, said Senator Mark preferred to be an elder statesman instead of sitting down in the Senate.
The source said the lawmakers prevailed on Mark not to quit the Senate but play fatherly roles to PDP senators in the Red Chamber.
The Source said: “You can notice that since the inauguration of 8th Senate, you can hardly see the immediate Senate President stay till the end of plenary session.
“He will only come and sit at the plenary for some minutes before he leaves the chamber.”
Senator Mark came into Senate in the 1999.
He spent eight years as Senate President between 2007 till 20015, making him the first Senate president that spent eight years uninterrupted years.
