PDP national chairmanship: Aspirants know fate on March 24

Those seeking the exalted position of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party will know their fate on March 24, 2012 when the party’s national convention holds.
The date waqs fixed on Monday at an emergency National Executive Council meeting of the party held in Abuja.
The position was also zoned at the meeting, attended by President Jonathan and other big wigs of the party, to the North-East.

Among those who had shown interest in the chairmanship of the party before meeting on Monday were a former governor of old Gongola State, Bamanga Tukur; a former Minister of Defence, Shettima Mustapha, from Borno State; a former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Ibrahim Bunu, Borno State; a former Governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Ahmed Muazu; a former Minister from Taraba State, Idris Waziri; and a former Minister of Agriculture from Adamawa State, Adamu Bello.
The NEC also fixed ward congresses to commence March 3.
Local government congresses will hold on March 10, state congresses on March 17 and zonal congresses on March 21.
The NEC mandated the National Working Committee of the party to constitute the National Convention and Congresses Planning Committees to oversee the conduct of congresses and national convention.
