The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum has said the landslide victory recorded by the candidate of the party, Ayo Fayose, in the gubernatorial election in Ekiti State has shown the confidence that Nigerians repose in the ruling party and pledged that governors elected on the platform of the party would continue to execute programmes that would better the lives the people.
Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, who is also the Chairman of the PDPGF, spoke on behalf of his colleagues.
According to Akpabio: “The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum congratulates President Goodluck Jonathan for his electoral reforms and commitment to the principle of one man, one vote, which have led to the free and fair election in Ekiti State as attested to by local and international observers.
“We are also happy that the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission got it right in Ekiti. We urge them not to relent in their effort towards the elimination of fraud and rigging in the electoral process, as election results should always reflect the popular choice of the people as shown in Ekiti.”
Akpabio also commended the conduct of security agencies in maintaining law and order in the Ekiti State election and said citizens who have not run foul of the law need not be afraid of security agents.
According to the Forum, the conduct of the major contestants, who had quickly conceded victory to the eventual winner, was exemplary and commended them for their statesmanship and for putting the interest of the people of Ekiti State above their personal ambitions.
They said such attitude will eliminate unnecessary litigation.
Akpabio expressed delight that the ranks of the Forum has swollen with the election of Fayose and said other states whose elections were pending should take a cue from Ekiti State people and trust the ruling party to continue to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.
