The Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto State on Tuesday denied that it had promised to offer automatic governorship ticket to Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari, the state Deputy Governor.
The State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, said at a news conference in Sokoto that the PDP had never taken such a decision.
Milgoma said: “Nobody was promised any automatic ticket of the party when the merger agreement between the PDP and the then All Nigeria Peoples Party was reached.
“I am hearing it from you journalists for the first time.
“We already have a transparently elected gubernatorial candidate in the person of Senator Abdallah Wali.”
Milgoma also denied that the result of the recent gubernatorial primaries in the state had been nullified by the national headquarters of the party.
He advised those peddling the rumours to stop and urged aggrieved aspirants to petition the national secretariat of the party for redress.
The chairman further denied that the PDP in the state had been factionalised into four groups as a fall out of the primaries.
Milgoma said: “PDP in sokoto state is intact, united, very formidable and fully ready for the 2015 general elections even if it will hold now.
“We are united and committed to wresting power from the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state and we are already strategising to do just that, Insha Allahu.
“PDP will win the elections at all levels in 2015 by the special grace of God.”
