The Peoples Democratic Party in Yobe State on Wednesday urged state-owned media organisations to give all political parties and their candidates equal opportunities.
The demand was contained in a statement issued by Ibrahim Yusuf, the Media Assistant to the state PDP Chairman, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Damaturu.
The statement quoted Alhaji Lawan Karasuwa, the state chairman of the party, as saying that the state owned radio and television stations should abide by the ethics of the profession.
Karasuwa said: “They should discharge their duties without fear or favour, irrespective of the political party in office.
“These media outfits are paid and serviced with public funds, and should open the doors of their services to all.”
The statement also reminded the electronic media that their operations must be guided by the code of the National Broadcasting Commission.
Reacting to the statement, the General Manager of Yobe Broadcasting Corporation, Alhaji Ibrahim Daciya, told NAN that they had been doing their best to reflect all sides.
“Whoever has any message to pass across, is always given the opportunity, but we are also guided by the ethics of our profession to display absolute sense of responsibility,” Daciya said.
