Key members of the Peoples Democratic Party, under the aegis of the National Working Committee, met on Wednesday to resolve the numerous crisis facing the party.
Two of the crises, which came to the fore on Wednesday, were the inability of the party to, in its usual practice, have a consensus candidate for the chairmanship position of its Board of Trustees, and the non-recognition of the congresses held in Adamawa State, which had the blessing of the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, it was learnt, discussed the twin issues among others.
Among those who attended the meeting were President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Vice President Sambo, Senate President David Mark, House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, Olagunsoye Oyinlola (National Secretary of the PDP), Senator Ayim Pius Anyim (Secretary to the Government of the Federation), Bello Haliru, Ojo Maduekwe, Chief Tony Anenih, Prof. Jerry Gana, Kema Chikwe (Woman Leader of the PDP), Olisa Metuh (National Publicity Secretary), Sam Sam Jaja (Deputy National Chairman) and Mike Oghiadome (Jonathan’s Chief of Staff).
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Tukur said all disagreements had been resolved.
Perhaps addressing the upturning of the congresses in Adamawa State, which he sanctioned, by a 10-member NWC of the party at a meeting where he was not present, Tukur said: “PDP NWC is the first family of PDP.
“I can assure that like any other family, there may be disagreements but based on principle, not disagreement for anything.
“We have resolved all our differences.
“Some differences, you will bring them to light, examine them and find out why there has been disagreement and you go back and do what you believe is right.
“I am here with the Secretary of the party, Deputy National Chairman, the Women leader and our mouthpiece.
“I am the father of the party.
“I am the family head and therefore, I am here to tell you everything you want to know.
“I can tell you that we are one and the same.”
On the alleged betrayal of trust by the 10 members of the NWC who met behind him to disown the congresses in Adamawa State, Tukur said: “That has been resolved.”
Asked what the resolution was, he said: “There may be some misunderstanding.
“That is why we are here.”
