Misbahu Didi, President, Para-soccer Federation of Nigeria, says discussion is in top gear to hold a National Open Para-soccer Championship in Nasarawa State to create more awareness on the sport.
Didi made the disclosure on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Abuja.
According to him, the board will come out with a schedule of the tournament immediately it concludes the ongoing arrangements with Nasarawa State Government.
NAN reports that PFN holds para-soccer national and zonal leagues as well as other competitions annually.
He said: “The more competitions we have for athletes, the better for the development of Para-soccer in the country and beyond.
“We will soon come out with the schedule of the National Open Championship in Nasarawa State once we conclude arrangements with the government.
“They have significant role to play just as the federation also has its own role to play too. Discussion has been ongoing and by Monday, we hope to get to a logical conclusion on the event.
“What we conclude about the competition will be made available to the public after the meeting.’’
NAN reports that Para-soccer emanated from Nigeria in 1988 as a sport for paraplegic people and has metamorphosed into a national game awaiting continental and global acceptance.
Didi, one of the inventors of the game was re-elected president of the federation on February 15, and Solomon Dalung, the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, inaugurated the boards of para-sports on February 27.
Samuel Onitiju, the Vice-President of PFN, along with Didi had promised to elevate the sport to continental level after the inauguration.
