The Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Olubamiwo Adeosun, says the state is committed to ending open defecation across the state before the target date of 2025.

This is contained in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun.

Adeosun said this on Wednesday in Ibadan while declaring open a five-day training workshop for Desk Officers in the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State on Community-led Sanitation.

According to him, the state will be the first to achieve the goal in the country.

She noted that the training was aimed at changing the attitude of rural dwellers in the areas to hygiene and healthy living.

She described the workshop as a practical demonstration of community triggering efforts to end open defecation early.

The SSG said that Gov. Seyi Makinde led government was poised to stamping out unhygienic behaviours that could contribute to mortality among the rural populace.

Adeosun said that the state government would continue to support Oyo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (Oyo RUWASSA) to ensure that its aims and targets were achieved.

She commended the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, as well as UNICEF for collaborating with Oyo State Rural Water Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) to curb open defecation.

Also speaking, the Chairman Oyo RUWASSA,  Najeem Omirinde, commended Makinde for his vision in providing an enabling environment for the people of the state to live and prosper in their economic pursuits.

Omirinde enjoined people of the state to continue to support the state government in its bid to improve their living condition as well as develop the state.
