Controversy over the source of funding of the Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan, Oyo State has been laid to rest, at least for now.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dapo Lam Adesina, on Thursday described as untrue insinuation that the club is being jointly funded by the governments of Oyo State and Osun State.
The commissioner told The Eagle Online that the Oyo State Government remains the owner of the Nigeria Premier League side.
“Oyo State Government funds Shooting Stars 100 per cent and that Osun State is spending money on the club is untrue,” he said.
The young commissioner assured fans of the club and Nigerians in general that the Lekan Salami Stadium will be officially commissioned and ready for use by the end of February.
He said: “We thank God for the level of work in the stadium.
“The present government has reviewed and reapproved the project for the concluding part.
“As you can see that work is going on here, it will be ready for use by the end of February.
“The artificial turf and tartan track will be ready and I can tell you that there will be no difference with the European standard.”
He listed the stadium seats, digital score board and technical stands as part of the second phase of the project, which will start very soon, adding: “The phase two of the stadium will start very soon and I believe this will beautify the stadium and make it camera friendly.”
