The composition of a ‘stakeholders group’ is unknown to the letters and constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party, its Oyo state chapter saidon Wednesday.
Following the dismal performance of the party in the state in the last general election, a group, led by one Alhaji Rasheed Adebisi Olopoeniyan, regrouped under what they called “reformed PDP/Stakeholders group” and has been working and holding meetings ever since.
But the Yinka Taiwo-led state party executive on Wednesday warned members across all the 351 wards and entire 33 local governments in the state to be wary of the antics of the group, saying it was formed to further polarise the party.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Kehinde Salawu, who made the clarification at a press conference has therefore called on members of the party across the state to close ranks, forget their differences and rebuild the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
At the maiden press briefing held at the party’s newly acquired state secretariat at 2, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Opposite NICON Building, Molete, Ibadan, Salawu said it was time members put the last general elections behind them.
The party called on its members to return to their units, wards and local governments to rebuild the party, noting that they should be wary of divisive tendencies that could further sabotage the effort to restore the party’s glory.
“At this point, our members should be careful of elements that form themselves into factional stakeholders’ groups with the intention of sabotaging the party. If anyone wants any information about the party, they should direct their enquiries to the party office at Molete,” the Publicity Secretary stated.
