The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Boboye Oyeyemi, has tasked staff on the need to ensure inter-agency collaboration in the course of performing their assignments.
Oyeyemi said no organisation can do it alone without the support of others.
According to Bisi Kazeem, the Head of Media Relations and Strategy of the FRSC, Oyeyemi stated this while addressing staff of the Gombe State Sector Command of the FRSC during his advocacy visit to the state.
According to him, road safety is a shared responsibility of all stakeholders and its campaigns can only succeed when deliberate efforts are made to involve other relevant stakeholders in the campaigns, noting the aggressive partnership initiatives he is pursuing was to demonstrate that spirit.
While commending the founding fathers of the FRSC for making partnership ideals central to its campaigns, Oyeyemi disclosed that the involvement of traditional and religious leaders to complement the efforts of other stakeholders in the campaigns to make the roads safer was to demonstrate the shared nature of road safety responsibility. He commended the staff of the Corps as well as members of the Special Marshals and Road Safety Clubs for their various contributions to the success of public sensitisation programmes in the country, saying the present commitment must be sustained.
“I commend all of you for showing commitment to making the roads safe for all road travellers. But let me state that in sustaining the ideals, you must involve other stakeholders in the campaigns because FRSC alone cannot do it,” he stated.
Oyeyemi applauded the Gombe State Government for its logistics support for the FRSC in the state, pointing out that the efforts demonstrate its concern for the welfare and safety of the people of the state.
He urged the staff to reciprocate the kind gestures of the state government by improving on their enforcement as well as rescue activities, saying there must be improvements in response time to distress calls and their contributions to the sustenance of the existing peace and tranquillity in the state must remain strong.
The Corps Marshal also commended the state government for constructing the by-pass roads that lead to the state capital, which provides alternative routes for trucks entering the town.
This, he said, has drastically reduced the incidences of crashes involving trucks in the town, adding that the construction of traffic lights at some strategic locations in the city centre has equally contributed to the general reduction in the rate of road traffic crashes in the state, imploring staff to support the initiatives to succeed.
On staff welfare, the Corps Marshal disclosed that Management is genuinely concerned with addressing the welfare needs of the staff, noting that while the Staff Post Service Scheme is being vigorously pursued, the “One staff, One House” project is on course.
“Staff should take advantage of these opportunities by improving on their personal development and take care of their health status through regular exercises and medical checkups,” he stated.
Speaking on the level of preparedness of the FRSC in this year’s yuletide campaigns, Oyeyemi stated that all hands are on deck to ensure that people celebrate the feasts devoid of crash-induced deaths and perennial gridlocks on identified roads.
While thanking the Federal Government for its consistent moral and logistics support for the FRSC, the Corps Marshal stated that very soon, there would be additional logistics provisions by the Federal Government to enhance the Corps’ operational and rescue capabilities, assuring that Management will not fail in its responsibilities to staff.
Oyeyemi noted, however, that staff must on their own reciprocate the gestures by improving on their services.
The Corps Marshal is in Gombe State in continuation of his advocacy programmes toward a hitch-free yuletide celebration for this year.
As part of his activities in the state, he is expected to pay an advocacy visit to the state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwabo, at the Government House, before paying courtesy call on the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shahu Abubakar II.
He is also expected to decorate the traditional ruler as well as some top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Speaker of the state House of Assembly and the Secretary to the State Government as Honourary members of the Special Marshal to join the Governor who had earlier been invested as the Patron of the Special Marshals in the state.
