Oyerinde: Oshiomhole threatens to release damning police report

The controversy over the murder of Olaitan Oyerinde, the Private Secretary of the Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has put the governor at loggerheads with the police high command.
The tension between the two worsened on Friday following the reaction of the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, that Oshiomhole’s allegation that the police had compromised the investigation into Oyerinde’s death was untrue.
Abubakar, who spoke after a meeting on Friday with Commissioners of Police and other senior police officers to intimate them of their roles in implementing the newly launched Code of Conduct for officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, dismissed Oshiomhole’s allegation as “unfounded.”
He said: “In the first place, this case is in court.
“It will be subjudice for me to be discussing it.
“But, we are going to reply that comment at the appropriate time, and soonest, because he made allegations that are unfounded.
“But we will reply appropriately.”
However, in a swift reaction, Oshiomhole replied Abubakar on Friday.
He said the police high command was not ready to accept the truth and tell Nigerians the facts surrounding the murder of Oyerinde.
Oshiomhole therefore threatened to release the police report on his aide’s murder, stating that he will publish the facts in the document presented to him by the police and duly incidented by a Divisional Police Officer that his private secretary was not killed by the human rights activist, David Ugolor, whom the police arrested and detained for two months.
Oshiomhole said: “The IGP said I am making allegations.
“But this is not an allegation.
“It is a fact presented to me by the police themselves in black and white and I will go ahead to publish it.”
Oshiomhole had on Thursday while delivering a key note address at the launch of the Code of Conduct and Professional Standard for officers and men of the Nigeria Police, at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, called for the dismissal of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Peter Gana, who supervised the investigation into the murder of Oyerinde.
The Vice-President, Namadi Sambo represented President Goodluck Jonathan at the event.
Oshiomhole alleged that the DIG conducted a shoddy investigation into the death of Oyerinde, describing it as “police magic.”
He said Gana was shielding the persons who murdered his private secretary.
