The owner of the tanker that got engulfed in fire leading to the death of many persons on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos State, Hassan Yusuf Maiwake, has been arrested by operatives the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba.
Available information has it that the truck owner was arrested on July 26, 2018.
The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Chike Oti, a Chief Superintendent of Police, confirmed the development.
Oti, however, said the driver of the truck, with registration number NSR 888 YQ, and which caused the death on the bridge on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on June 28, 2018, was yet to be identified and arrested.
Twelve persons died in the accident, while 56 vehicles were burnt.
Oti said: “Meanwhile, the owner of the truck, Maikwe of No.16 Hotoro Limawa, Kano state, was arrested yesterday, 26/07/2018, in Kano and he is now helping the police in its effort to locate the driver of the ill-fated truck.”
He said the Commissioner, Lagos State Police Command, Edgal Imohimi, has assured that the Command would do all it can to help families who lost their beloved ones in the accident find a closure by ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to book.
Oti added: “DNA test to ascertain the true identities of the charred remains of the victims is ongoing. Further development will be communicated to Lagosians.”
