Over 70 diverse media practitioners have been co-opted to serve in the Publicity Sub-Committee on the second term inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State.
The media experts, including journalists, bloggers and other conventional and social media managers, were inaugurated on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Senator Emmanuel Onwe, in Abakaliki.
Addressing newsmen at the event, Onwe, who is the Central Publicity Committee Chairman, noted that the expansion has become imperative in order to “ensure that the programmes, the projects, the accomplishments of the Governor over the last four years are given adequate publication, even adequate exposure across Ebonyi State, the nation and in fact internationally.”
He emphasized that the job of the sub-committee would be to holistically offer the desired publicity services to make the event memorable, including activities leading up to that.
He outlined some of the activities earmarked on for the programme to include the commissioning and dedication of the magnificent Ecumenical Centre built by the Governor, which is billed to take place on May 26.
Others include inter-denominational Church service, Stakeholders Forum as well as a special media chat on May 27.
Onwe emphasised: “On Sunday, May 26, we would be performing the dedication of the Ecumenical Centre, which is the most brilliant Cathedral masterpiece in the whole of Nigeria as far as I know.
“That event would be televised live on NTA and other media outfit.
“The idea is to thank God who made all these things possible.
“His Excellency wants to use it to appreciate the benevolence and the grace of God for all he has done as well as thank the people of Ebonyi who did not only support him for the past four years but have given him their mandate for another four years.
“Of course, the media chat is going to take place on Monday, the 27th.
“This media chat is going to be unique because it marks the closing of one chapter and the opening of another.”
Onwe, who extolled the invaluable role the media has played in shaping governance in the State, urged members of the sub-committee to display the highest level of professionalism and innovation towards making the Governor’s inauguration, come May 29, a huge success.
He added that the media chat would offer the Governor the opportunity to summarily deliver his impeccable report card in the past four years while exposing the policies and programmes he intends to pursue for the continued edification of the State and her citizens.
