The Code of Conduct Bureau on Tuesday said more than 200 immediate former political appointees in Bauchi State have not declared their assets as provided under the law.
The state Director of the Bureau, Alhaji Ibraheem Mahmood, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Bauchi.
Mahmood warned that the defaulters risked 10-year ban from holding public offices and seizure of properties if convicted by the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
He said: “The more than 200 political appointees yet to declare their assets as they leave their various offices include Special Assistants, Directors General, Chairmen and Board members among others.
“Those that are yet to complete their declaration forms should endeavour to do so to avoid facing the tribunal.
“Amongst the penalties, member of the legislature can be denied his or her seat or will not be allowed to contest for any political position for a period not more than 10 years.”
The director confirmed that former Governor Isa Yuguda had declared his assets before existing office.
He said Yuguda’s document was submitted to the bureau by his Senior Special Assistant, Personal Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Nayaya.
Mahmood also said that Governor Mohammed Abubakar and his Deputy, Alhaji Nuhu Gidado, had declared their assets on May 27.
He advised elected members of the state legislature to do the same before their swearing-in.
