Timothy Owoeye, the Speaker of Osun House of Assembly, on Friday congratulated Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress over Oyetola’s victory at the Supreme Court.
Owoeye, in a statement in Osogbo, described the judgment as a confirmation of the people’s mandate which was freely given to Oyetola and the APC during the governorship election in September, 2018.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Supreme Court on Friday declared Oyetola the winner of the governorship election.
Oyetola’s victory was challenged by Senator Ademola Adeleke, who was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democracy Party at the election tribunal up to the apex court.
Owoeye also commended the Supreme Court panel for standing by the truth in spite of the campaign of calumny by the opposition to get a favourable judgment.
The speaker paid tributes to the legal team of the APC, Independent National Electoral Commission and Oyetola for a thorough job and sacrifice while the case lasted.
He acknowledged the roles played by the trio of Bola Tinubu, the national leader of APC, Chief Bisi Akande and Rauf Aregbesola for their support throughout the legal battle.
Owoeye reiterated the readiness of the state parliament to work with Oyetola through far-reaching reforms that would aid the development of the state.
He appealed to the people of the state, including the opposition parties, to put behind them the outcome of the judgment and collaborate with Oyetola to move Osun to enviable heights.
