The Federal Government has approved the termination of the contract of Shoreline Oil Services Limited as operators of the Osubi Airstrip in Warri, Delta State.
The termination of the contract was contained in a letter dated February 7, 2020 by the Federal Ministry of Aviation.
The letter, with reference number: TCA 402/S.38/C.2/1/213, was signed by one of the Ministry’s Directors, Captain T. Alkali.
It was also copied to the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Director General of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency.
Titled: “Re: Request for Approval to Terminate Shoreline Oil Services Limited as Operator of Osubi Airstrip,” the letter reads: “I am directed to refer to the above subject and convey Mr. President’s approval of the termination of the appointment of Shoreline Oil Services Limited as interim operator of the Osubi Air Strip as well as the engagement of the Honorable Minister of Aviation by NNPC to put in place a mechanism to Ensure operation of the Airstrip pending the appointment of a competent operator.
“Consequently, you are directed to take necessary action by ensuring seamless operations at the Airstrip with immediate effect.”
As earlier reported by The Eagle Online, there had been complaints over the management of the airstrip by Shoreline Oil Services Limited by airlines operating there.
The airstrip, built by Shell Nigeria, was leased to the company by the Federal Government.
But the company was said to have almost brought activities there to a halt with its lackadaisical attitude towards operations.
A lot of times, the airlines complained about the failure of the company to even provide power for aircraft to land and take off.
It was also said to have failed in its remittances to the government.
