Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has commiserated the management and staff of Independent Television, Benin over the death of their cameraman, Mr. Chuka Ogu, who was shot dead by suspected armed robbers.
In a letter to the General Manager of the station, Elder Ogbeide Uwunmwonse, Oshiomhole said: “I learnt with rude shock and grief news of the death of your camera man, Mr. Chuka Ogu over the weekend. I wish to convey the condolence of the people and Government of Edo State as well as my personal commiseration on this unfortunate occurrence.
“We are deeply pained and saddened not only by the fact of his death, but also by the way he died. However, be assured that you are not alone in mourning. Our hearts are with you and with his immediate family at this very difficult moment.
“His death will certainly be a great loss not only to the ITV Family but indeed to the Media in Edo State. He was a well-trained professional, who applied himself to his job with exceptional diligence and drive for perfection.
“Most of us in the Government House still have fond memories of his tour of duty here. While on the beat here, Chuka gave his best. He was always a noticeably dutiful and enthusiastic member of the press crew. Eventually, he became a rich repository of archival materials on this Administration. Our consolation is that Chuka has left a respectable legacy as a seasoned professional.
“We pray God to comfort his immediate family and his professional colleagues. We also join you in prayer for God in His infinite mercy to grant him eternal rest as befitting a true faithful.
“Please, convey our commiseration and prayers to Chuka’s family and colleagues.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.”
