Nigerian international, Osaze Odemwingie, will be aiming to keep up his 100 per cent goalscoring record at Ashton Gate when Sheffield Wednesday come to town on Saturday.
The on-loan Stoke City striker scored on his home debut in the 6-0 thrashing of Bolton Wanderers and then grabbed a vital equaliser in the draw with Rotherham United last night.
Now Odemwingie is keen to make it a hat-trick of home goals – or more – when the play-off chasing Owls visit a sold-out Ashton Gate this weekend.
“One of our staff said you must enjoy playing here because that’s two in two,” he told Bristol City Player HD.
“It’s a good fit and it’s important because you always want to do well in your home games.
“It’s a great stadium and will be even better when the fourth stand is ready. We’re getting sell-out crowds and the atmosphere is great.
“Hopefully I can keep doing well here at Ashton Gate.”
After a free-flowing six-goal victory over Bolton, last night was an altogether different battle with Neil Warnock’s Rotherham side.
Well accustomed to life at the top table in the Premier League and scoring at World Cups, Odemwingie admitted it was something of a culture shock for him.
“There wasn’t a lot of football played and I’ve forgotten what it’s like to play in that sort of match!” he grinned.
“I’ve had it a few times in my career and I can understand why fans don’t enjoy it; you just have to get the job done.
“I think the head coach is happy with the point. We’re closer to safety after other results went our way, but we still want to finish as high up the table as possible. That’s our aim – and it’s a good message for the head coach to send to the players. We can’t relax.
“Their goalkeeper made some decent saves, otherwise I think we would have won it. I had a good chance in the first half and I told myself to be ready for the next opportunity.
“Then in the second half the ball dropped and I just focused on hitting the target. I struck it harder than I planned but it went in the right direction.”
