Out of favour Super Eagles’ and Stoke City’s new buy, Osaze Odemwingie, has been defrauded of N4.1 million (£15,437.67) by a certain Claire Duke, who claimed to be the player’s lifestyle coach.
Duke, 38, of St Albans, is on trial after being charged with fraud in connection to conning several footballers, including Odemwingie.
She allegedly stole £15,437.67 by using the Nigeria international’s debit card.
The self acclaimed stylist coach was charged with fraud at the end of last year and she faced the jury on Friday at Stafford Crown Court.
She is also accused of taking over £70,000 in one year from her footballer clients, receiving the money to book flights and holidays but instead keeping it for herself.
The fraud is alleged to have taken place between September 1, 2012 and July 10, 2013.
Duke is charged with taking a total of £71,106.83 by fraudulent means.
Odemwingie, 32, is said to have employed her as his lifestyle consultant.
