The Niger State Police Command on Thursday deployed its special and regular personnel to restore law and order at Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area of the state over attack by suspected bandits.
DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, made this known while confirming the incident to newsmen in Minna.
“The police have dispatched special and regular forces to Kagara to restore law and order, after suspected bandits killed one person and abducted nine others,” Abiodun said.
He assured the people that the police would do everything possible to restore normalcy to the area.
The police spokesperson said several people were injured in the raid, which lasted for many hours and into the early hours of the following day.
Aliyu Mohammed, a youth from the area, told journalists that those kidnapped included the wife of the Education Secretary of Chanchaga Local Government Council, Alhaji Lawal Balarabe.
He said the woman was abducted along with her one-week-old baby.
Mohammed said the suspected bandits arrived at the area, riding on 27 motorcycles and shooting sporadically into the air, making the residents to scamper for safety.
“They moved from house to house, searching all the houses, forcing the occupants to open their doors and stealing their properties,” he said.
Also, Alhaji Mohammed Garba, a community leader in the area, said the suspected bandits started operation late on Wednesday at Uregi town.
Garba said several people were kidnapped and hundreds of cattle rustled.
He said: “Three of my cousins were among those kidnapped.
“We are tired of this daily invasion.
“We cannot do anything with peace of mind again.
“We are always afraid that we will be attacked.”
