One person has been confirmed killed and two injured in an accident that occurred on Sunday morning on the Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos.
A statement by the Route Commander, FRSC Public Education Officer, Olabisi Sonusi, said the accident involved a 20-feet containerized Mack truck with two different registration numbers: LSD 973 XM and FKJ 214 XY; and two other vehicles – a Toyota wagon with registration number JJJ 28 FR and Toyota Camry with registration number BDG 597 CY.
Sonusi said, “The crash involved six occupants with one killed while two males were confirmed injured.
“The injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment while the driver of the Mack truck fled the scene before the arrival of rescue teams.”
He said the combined team of FRSC, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and rescue team from the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) have evacuated all crashed vehicles from the scene.
The Sector Commander, FRSC Lagos Sector Command, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, has also ordered an investigation into the cause of the crash, and directed that the driver who fled the scene of the crash be apprehended and prosecuted once the owner of the truck is identified.
Ogungbemide confirmed that a total of 3,298 trucks and articulated vehicles have been apprehended for various offences since the beginning of this year.
He also reiterated the resolve of that corps to ensure that vehicles without minimum safety standard are taken off Lagos roads.
Ogungbemide commiserated with the family of the deceased and wished the injured quick recovery.
He also advised all truck owners to always maintain their vehicles and other motorists to always obey all traffic rules and regulations.
