Bola Aidi on Saturday in Akure emerged as the governorship candidate of the Unity Party of Nigeria for the November 26 gubernatorial election in Ondo State.
The primary election coincided with the party’s state maiden congress.
Aidi, the only aspirant in the primary election, was unanimously adopted by 100 delegates across the 18 local government areas of the state.
He thanked members of the party for finding him worthy to carry the flag of the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
According to him: “Today marks the beginning of the end of slavery in Ondo State.”
Aidi said the party would return to the political scene for true service to the people.
Aidi said that he would focus on development of manpower and job creation for all, if he becomes the governor.
The State Chairman of the party, Rotimi Boboye, said the party was ready to take its rightful position not only in the state but in the entire country.
Boboye said the party was formed to bring up true leaders that could dedicate their lives to the service of Nigerians.
According to Boboye, the party has come to correct the wrongs and the disservice by the so-called “big” and national parties.
He said the party had confidence in Aidi as its gubernatorial candidate because the candidate had been a voice of the masses and had been supporting the masses for so long.
All the executive members of the party were retuned unopposed, with Boboye and Jide Fatunla elected State Chairman and State Secretary respectively.
Abbi Ngoye, the Vice Chairman of UPN, South South, who is also the Chairman of the Ondo State UPN Congress and Governorship Electoral Committee, said the primary was peaceful.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, party chieftains as well as security personnel were present to ensure smooth conduct of the primary election and congress.
