The Ondo State Government on Tuesday announced that it had joined states with sustainable social interventions with Single Register of Poor and Vulnerable Households.
Bankole Olaoluwa, Coordinator of Ondo State Youth Employment and Social Support Operation, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in his office in Akure.
Olaoluwa said that the state was now part of the National Registry with 24, 308 PVHHs on its register.
He said: “The register is made possible as a result of the data gathered from the first six local government areas through a rigorous Community Based Targeting process, enumeration and data cleaning exercise.
“The Local Government Areas are: Akoko Southwest, Akure North, Ese-Odo, Ifedore, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo and Owo.
“These local government areas are drawn from the state poverty map.”
Olaoluwa confirmed that the SR had been duly approved by the World Bank and a copy made available to National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office.
He said that it was, therefore, ready for use by the three major components of ODYESSO.
The coordinator gave the components as: Public Workfare, Skill for Job and Cash Transfer.
The intervention, he added, would not be limited to the three components, but also opened for intervention from good people of the state, development partners, politicians and philanthropists.
He said that work had already started in the other 12 local government areas as advocacy visit had been made to them.
He added: “They already have their CBT and enumerators in place, and soon, step-down training will be conducted so as to expose them to the nitty-gritty of the exercise when they get to the communities on the ranked list already submitted by the LGAs.”
He assured the PVHHs that the impact of the whole project would be enormous as ODYESSO had followed best global practice in terms of identification of PVHHs through effective targeting.
The targeting, he noted, was very key in the constitution of the register adding that once this was done correctly, little challenges would be faced.
Olaoluwa disclosed that 6,170 youths had been drawn from the SR by the public workfare, and enrollment had also commenced with stipends to be given to the youths by the end of July.
He stressed that it would be a great relief and reduce the menace of unemployment in the country.
Olaoluwa said he was optimistic that that a target of 100,000 PVHHs would be on the SR by the end of 2019, , believing it would also have a huge impact on the economy of the state.
He thanked Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his unwavering support and especially for the provision of all required resources.
