Some aspirants on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria for the governorship election in Ondo State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The aspirants defected on Thursday.
Among those who defected were Jamiu Ekungba, Saka Lawal amd Olaiya Oni.
Those who defected were some of those aggrieved with the manner the candidate of the ACN for the October 20, 2012 governorship election, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, emerged.
There had been loud complaints about the manner Akeredolu was chosen by the National Leader of the ACN, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, The aspirants complained that the national leadership of the party should have allowed for a democratic emergence of the party’s candidate.
They even opted to support any other candidate but Akeredolu, who is from Owo.
However, a prominent member of the ACN, who craved for anonymity, described those who defected to the PDP as “small fries whose absence cannot in anyway affect the fortunes of our party.”
The source said that a lot of overtures had been made to the aggrieved aspirants, wondering why they chose to ignore the plea of the leadership of the party.
