Some of the aspirants who sought for the ticket of the Action Congress of Nigeria for the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State have promised to work with the candidate of the party, Chief Olurotimi Akeredolu.
The aspirants, who met in Osogbo, Osun State on Sunday, said they needed to form a common front in order to defeat the Labour Party-led government in the state.
In a communique signed by the aspirants, they said the Labour Party-led government, headed by Governor Olusegun Mimiko, had shortchanged the state for long and that the ACN was ready to provide the people with democratic dividends.
Though some of the leading aspirants were absent from the meeting and those considered not too important to be invited were not invited at all, the candidates who were present promised to back Akeredolu for the election.
The 12 aspirants present at the meeting were Festus Oluwole, Senator Meroyi Omololu, Olatayo Aribo, Senator Ajayi Boroffice Robert, Hon. Aale Akinterinwa, Hon. Ajata Jaiyeola, Hon. Abegunde Ifedayo, Comrade Sola Iji, Chief Tayo Alasoadura, Barrister Ayodele Adedipe and Prince Oniye Olomoyewa.
Akeredolu was also at the meeting.
Those absent included Dr. Tunji Abayomi and Dr. Olu Agunloye.
The aspirants present at the meeting said they were committed to doing all that was possible for the ACN to win the October 2010 governorship election in Ondo State.
They also urged those who were absent to join hands with them for the purpose of claiming the state from the Labour Party.
