Students of the Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ekiti State on Friday appealed to the All Progressives Congress to give Abayomi Adesanya the deputy governorship slot ahead of the November 26 election.
The students made the appeal in a letter to Olajumoke Ajasin-Anifowose, the “APC Search Team’’ Chairperson, a copy of which were made available to newsmen in Akure.
The students’ union President, Olanipekun Sanmi, who endorsed the letter, said Adesanya, who is the local Publicity Secretary of APC, is young and vibrant.
Sanmi said that Adesanya, by his antecedence, would not undermine the yearnings of the youths in the state.
The Eagle online News reports that the name of Agboola Ajayi, from Kiribo in Ese-Odo Local Government Area, had earlier been submitted by APC to INEC as Rotimi Akeredolu’s running mate on September 22.
The party leadership, however, said that the slot was still open, following protests by some of the party gladiators who felt their constituencies were cheated in the scheme of things.
The party has up to October 18 to submit a new name to INEC or retain Ajayi’s name.
Sanmi described Adesanya as “able and vibrant young leader always willing to give hope to the youths.
The letter said: “On behalf of students in my esteemed citadel of learning, l write to express our support for the aspiration of Abayomi Adesanya as the candidate for the deputy governorship seat.
“This support and recommendation did not just come without reason, but it is strongly borne out of experience and involvement with him.
“This has led to a strong conviction about his commitment and interest in youths and students, which is very satisfactory to us.
“You will agree with me that we are the future of this state, nation and world at large, and as such, we strongly believe a man of sincere and deep interest in the student-populace is the right man for the seat.”
