Super Eagles’ vice captain, Ogenyi Onazi, has pleaded with warring factions to sheath their swords in the interest of the country.
Onazi spoke against the backdrop of the Supreme Court pronouncement on the leadership tussle in the Nigeria Football Federation involving the President, Amaju Pinnick, and a contender for his seat, Chris Giwa.
The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the parties to return to the Federal High Court for adjudication on the matter.
The Turkey-based midfielder, via his Twitter handle: @OnaziOgenyi, opined that all hands must now be on deck in their build up to the Mundial, saying the leadership tussle of the Nigeria Football Federation may be counter productive to Nigeria’s campaign in Russia.
“No…not again. The worst periods of our football in recent past were those times when we had thee ‘court’ distractions. Let’s not go back to those days. We need to support the NFF, the World Cup is just some days away,” Onazi pleaded.
Meanwhile, the midfielder returned to action after two weeks of injury layoff.
Onazi was in action for 90 minutes in Trabzonspor’s 2-1 away win over Antalyaspor on Saturday.
He tweeted: “Very important victory away from home, feels really good to be back doing what I know how to do best.. thank you Lord.”
