The African Democratic Congress said its attention has been drawn to protests by the people of Osun State against the omission of the name of their preferred Deputy Governorship candidate, retired Justice Folahanmi Olamide Oloyede, on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s candidates’ list for the September 22, 2018 governorship election in Osun State.
The National Working Committee of the ADC said it is happy that the people of Osun State have, through this action, demonstrated their unflinching support for an amazon, who stood up for them, not minding negative implications on her life and career and are ready to speak for her and the Governorship candidate with their votes, come September 22, 2018.
It said in a statement on Wednesday: In view of this, we are emphasising, for clarity, that the candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor of our great party, ADC, in Osun State are Fatai Akinade Akinbade and Folahanmi Olamide Oloyede (rtd Justice), respectively, and no political pranks can change this.
“INEC has been duly notified and the Commission has also affirmed the receipt of these names as candidates of ADC. The unrectified omission of the name of our party’s candidate for Deputy Governor from INEC’s list may, therefore, be the handiwork of mischief-makers and those playing god in Osun politics.
“However, the protests against what looks like a deliberate action masterminded by some anti-people autocrats show that the people of Osun State are ready to shun money and deceitful politics to vote with their conscience for their preferred candidates under the platform of ADC.
“Oloyede is well known to Osun people as a honest professional who will always stand up for their rights regardless of whose ox is gored. She is a fearless, intelligent and patriotic citizen of Nigeria, who had demonstrated in the past that her political stand would always be ‘people first’.
“She is seen in many quarters as a courageous and incorruptible individual whose candidature fits perfectly into the vision of ADC for Osun State, in particular, and Nigeria in general.
“With Oloyede as Deputy Governor and Akinbade as Governor, Osun people are sure of a solid economy built on the foundation of transparency and good governance. We therefore urge them to shun the shenanigans of mischief-makers and vote massively for ADC to reap the full benefits of democracy.
