The Edo State House of Assembly on Monday urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to compensate victims of oil spillage in Igiode community in Etsako East Local Government Area of the state.
Kingsley Ugabi (APC Etsako East), who moved the motion under matters of urgent public importance during plenary on Monday in Benin, said the oil spillage had caused pollution to farmlands.
According to Ugabi, the river, which serves as the only source of water supply to the community. is also polluted.
He, therefore, urged the NNPC to clean up the affected area and send its technical team to replace ruptured pipelines.
The House unanimously adopted the motion., the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
