In a tragic turn of event, the acting Head of the Audit Department at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Mr Adeniyi Oluwaseun on Sunday committed suicide, by jumping into a well.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, shortly after Adeniyi had his dinner.
It was learnt that one of Adeniyi’s children was set to marry in a month’s time before the tragic incident happened, leaving his family and colleagues devastated.
His body has been recovered from the well and has since been deposited at a morgue.
Though the reasons behind the tragic act are yet to be determined, but a source disclosed that Adeniyi had a history of mental health struggles, although the specific nature of his condition remains undisclosed.

Confirming the incident, the Head of Public Relations and Communication Unit at FMC Abeokuta, Segun Orisajo expressed the hospital management’s deep sorrow.
Orisajo stated, “It is true that he committed suicide. It was an unfortunate incident. The management feels saddened about this development.”
He described the late Adeniyi as a hardworking and loyal staff member whose sudden death came as a shock to everyone at the hospital.
“The unfortunate incident caught the entire management off guard. It is a quiet and irreparable loss.
“The management extends its heartfelt condolences to the department, as well as to the immediate and extended family members of the deceased,” Orisajo added.
Efforts to get reaction from the spokesperson of Ogun State Police command, CSP Omolola Odutola proved abortive, as she did not respond to messages sent to her WhatsApp.
