The decade-long crisis that has factionalised the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has finally been resolved, the Secretary, PDP National Reconciliation and Strategy Committee, Hon. Linus Okorie, announced on Thursday.
He said, “I am directed by the chairman of the PDP National Reconciliation and Strategy Committee, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, to announce that today, the committee has successfully concluded the resolution of the decade-old crisis in the Ogun State chapter of the PDP.”
The state chapter of the PDP had in the past 10 years been factionalised into the groups led by the Late Buruji Kashamu and Hon. Ladi Adebutu, and had witnessed a series of court cases with each group obtaining injunctions and dissolving executive committees.
The crisis, which Okorie noted had weakened the party and was responsible for its loss in the state during the past three general elections, has now been resolved.
“Today, both parties have resolved to work together and withdraw all cases pending in the various courts. The parties also agree that PDP remains the best umbrella under which the unity and development of Nigeria can be achieved, sustained and guaranteed. They have signed an agreement to that effect,” he said.
He thanked leaders and stakeholders in Ogun State who played key roles in resolving the crisis, and lauded “the magnanimity, maturity, patriotism and the give-and-take spirit displayed by both parties to the crisis”.
He expressed the faith that PDP will, with the development, re-establish itself as the party that will take control of Ogun State from 2023.
