Two hundred and seventy-six out of the 349 councillors in Ogun State have stated their opposition to the position of the State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, that Adekunle Akinlade is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2019 election.
The councillors, who stated their position on Thursday, declared their support for the APC National Working Committee-backed governorship candidate for the State, Dapo Abiodun.
The councillors, from the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas of the State, stated their position at the campaign office of Abiodun in Iperu Remo.
They disclosed their support for the decision of the NWC on Abiodun.
Nurudeen Aka, Solarin Taofik, Somefun Olajuwon and Dapo Taiwo who spoke on behalf of their colleagues, pleaded with Amosun to support the NWC’s decision.
Taofik said: “We are here to declare support for the NWC on the governorship candidacy of Dapo Abiodun in Ogun State.
“We are appealing to the governor to embrace and support Dapo Abiodun as the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State.
“Governor Amosun is our leader in the party.
“He should continue his support to the party for its success at the polls in 2019.”
Aka said: “Whatever the party leaders say is what we are going to do, because the party is supreme.”
