Adekunle Akinlade, the Allied People’s Movement gubernatorial candidate in Ogun, has promised to create no fewer than 25,000 jobs for youths and women in the state within two years if elected.
The 49-year-old legislator made the promise during his ward-to-ward campaign in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.
Akinlade said one of the cardinal objectives of his administration was to alleviate poverty by providing jobs, and added that people in both the rural and urban areas of the state would be empowered.
According to him, plans have been made to create Information and Communication Technology hubs across the state and provide direct employment through information call centres.
He further promised to run a people-oriented government where the potentials of home-based Ogun indigenes would be maximised in critical areas to facilitate effective development.
He said: “There may be the need to bring people from outside for a particular assignment. But that would be done if there is nobody in Ogun State who can do it.
“This will be your government. It will be a people-oriented government. We can only do this together and I can assure you that I won’t let you down.”
The lawmaker visited no fewer than palaces of eight traditional rulers in Ijebu North for support.
Some of those visited included, the Ebumawe of Ago Iwoye, Oba AbdulRasaq Adesina; the Alaporu of Ilaporu, Oba Jimoh Quadri; the Bejeroku of Oke Agbo, Oba Olaoye Abass and the Oba of Sopen, Oba Mufutau Yusuf.
