Flying Eagles Coach, John Obuh, has expressed concern over the inability of the Nigeria Football Federation to clear some of the players he had invited to the team’s training camp in Germany.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the team is currently preparing for the upcoming 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will hold from June 21 to July 13, in Turkey.
Obuh told NAN in a telephone interview from the team’s base in Germany that only 14 players had so far arrived for training.
He said: “The team is currently preparing well but the toughest challenge I’m having at the moment is that some of my players are yet to be cleared.
“We don’t have much time on our side because the World Cup is just around the corner and I only have 14 players to train with.”
In spite of the dilemma, Obuh assured Nigerians that the team will do its best, but noted that he would have to make do with what he had at the moment.
He said that the team would strive to improve on its performance at the 2011 edition of the tournament in Colombia, where it suffered a quarter-final elimination at the hands of her French opponents.
Obuh said: “We hope to give our best with the right support in place from the NFA, but at the moment we just have to use what is available to us.
“We will also try to ensure that we go a step or two further than our previous performance in Colombia, where we lost in the quarter finals.”
NAN reports that the Flying Eagles are in Group B, alongside Cuba, Portugal and Korea Republic.
