In the ancient city of Ado-Ekiti, a General of the Nigerian Army, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, received two blows in the face from his bossom friend and legal icon, Aare Afe Babalola, in a football match.
Chief Obasanjo’s Bells University of Otta were beaten 2-0 by Aare Babalola’s University in the final of the test run of the University Sports League.
In the well celebrated match, which attracted a mammoth crowd, it was a celebration of youth, skill, speed, and hope.
The two goals did not reflect the exchanges that held the crowd spell bound.
At the end of the game, a student of Bells University said: “You have won the battle, we will win the war. We ask for a second leg in Otta in a forthnight.”
Immediately, Aare Babalola approved the replay of the game in Otta.
Special guest at the event was former Super Eagles Coach, Samson Siasia, who had a swell time with students wanting autographs and picture sessionss.
All winners of the various games got medals.
Chief Executive Officer of Ruddersports Nigeria, organisers of the USL, Edozien Egbuiwe said: “we are satisfied with the outcome of the event. It has given us a clear vision to make the League achieve its objective in the season one next year.”
