Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday attended the wedding ceremony of President Goodluck Jonathan’s foster daughter, Inebha paul.
Political gladiators present at the wedding, including state governors, were stunned because both the former and incumbent presidents have been launching verbal attacks at each other of late.
Obasanjo, in company with Andy Uba and some other aides, arrived the venue before the commencement of the church service held at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja.
His introduction as one of the special guests was greeted by loud applause while President Jonathan also recognized him in his vote of thanks.
In his words of advice to the couple, Jonathan admonished them to embrace the virtue of endurance, saying they should learn to be resolving their disagreements in their bedroom.
He counseled them not to bring their problems to him because he has more than enough issues at hand.
In his sermon, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh, said: “Money must not rule your marriage. Allow the love of God to rule your home.
“Let God have the final say, not money. Your marriage should be based on scriptures and not your certificates which are just gifts from God.
“We must obey and adopt the original marriage if we want to continue in the presence of God. There must be Adam and Eve, anything else is an aberration.
“We encourage young people to reject that new introduction of young men marrying men or women marrying women.
“Marriage was ordained for fellowship, friendship and companionship. You must be best of friends, companion and fellowship together.”
Those present at the service were Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, Archbishop Sam Amanga and Pastor Paul Adefarasin.
Other dignitaries were the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; Governor Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Governor Jonah Jang (Plateau); Governor Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa); Governor Lyel Imoke (Cross River; Governor Gabriel Suswam )Benue); former Governor Peter Odili; and Chief Edwin Clark.
